My OCD” is a storytelling event to inspire, educate, spread hope and celebrate the incredible individuals who face Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) every day.

WhoMy OCD will feature six cast members of the storytelling group, “Maybe, Maybe Not,” all of whom have experiences with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. We will have a range of ages, all females, including girls, teenagers, and adult women. My OCD will be moderated and produced by Drs. Shereen Morse and Stacy Shaw Welch.

What: My OCD will be a storytelling event. Each performer/presenter will share a personal story about OCD. Many of you will be familiar with The Moth events (https://themoth.org). Our event will be based on this format. We hope that stories will inspire others with OCD, educate, or simply provide an opportunity to celebrate the incredible people living with OCD.

Just imagine if you’d gotten to hear other people with OCD talk about what it is like and how they deal with it when you first got diagnosed, or even before you knew what is was. This doesn’t have to be a shameful, hidden struggle that happens alone or behind closed doors. Let’s share some stories and make a positive impact in our community!

CALLING FOR VOLUNTEER

We are currently recruiting for volunteers to help with OCD Week. Please email us if you are interested in volunteer opportunities! Community service hours are provided.

Besides OCD Week, we have a few more announcements:

  1. OCD WA will also be at the St. James Mental Health & Wellness Fair on October 6th, Sunday, 11-2 pm.

St. James Cathedral’s Mental Health & Wellness Ministry seeks to educate, support and empower those who experience various mental and physical illnesses or who are caregivers for loved ones who live with these challenges. The Mental Health & Wellness Fair offers an opportunity for St. James parishioners, Seattle’s First Hill community, as well as the many marginalized individuals who visit St. James, to learn current information on how to access valuable resources.

In addition to health & wellness resources, there will be representatives from organizations and agencies that provide needed services to those who experience homelessness, domestic violence, and other life crises. Come to check out the fair and stop by to see our booth!

  1. For OCD Awareness’s week, OCD Oregon’s theme this year is #FaceYourFear.

Art is an amazing way to express your thoughts, stressors, and emotions. OCD Oregon is calling for YOU to use the therapeutic medium of art (painting, drawing, collage, poetry, etc) and tell us your story (Include an approx 100-word blurb sharing about yourself and/or art piece).
All art will be displayed at our Art  Show and on Social media (with permission).  Art participants may donate their art to the Silent Auction. All art is needed by October 4th.

If you are interested, please email info@OCDoregon.org for more details.

As always, feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

Love,

OCD WA
