Bravewave OCD Summer Camps is a week-long camp designed for kids and adolescents with OCD, offering a unique blend of fun, growth, and clinical treatment (evidence-based exposure and response prevention, or ERP).

The camp will feature daily ERP sessions alongside fun activities and group projects designed to help campers build meaningful connections with one another. It will be personally led this year by the founders of BraveWave Collective (Dr. Welch and Ms. Cui, faculty partners at the University of Washington) along with a team of psychiatrists, clinical psychologists and therapists, and young adults who have lived experience and success with ERP treatment and thriving after an OCD diagnosis.

We plan to offer a Counselor in Training (CIT) program for youth who have had success with ERP treatment and hope to give back to other kids and teens and be part of the vibrant community of people who are thriving (not just surviving) with OCD!

Bravewave Camp operates as a non-profit, made possible only through the generous support of local businesses, sponsors, and donors like you. Your contributions—whether through donations or providing essential supplies—make a profound difference in helping us carry out our mission. Every dollar counts in creating a space where children and families can thrive!

1. What is Bravewave OCD Summer Camp?

Bravewave OCD Summer Camp is a nonprofit day camp for children and teens (ages 8–17) with OCD. The camp combines evidence-based ERP treatment, creative activities, and community connection into a weeklong experience designed to empower youth to fight OCD and thrive together. The camp is led by clinical experts, including Dr. Stacy Shaw Welch and Ms. Erjing Cui (faculty at the University of Washington), alongside a team of therapists, psychiatrists, and young adults with lived experience.

2. When and where is the camp held?

Dates: July 21–25, 2025
Location: Atmosphere Seattle, 1607 Dexter Avenue, Seattle, WA 98109

3. What are the daily camp hours?

Campers check in: 9:00 AM
Camp ends for younger campers: 1:30 PM
Teens continue activities until: 3:00 PM

4. What’s a typical day like at camp?

Each day will include a fun and engaging theme, which serves as the backdrop for both group activities and targeted exposure work. Campers will participate in ERP sessions, connect with peers, and engage in hands-on projects designed to build skills, confidence, and connection.

Sample Daily Schedule:
8:30–9:00 Staff check-in and setup
9:00–10:00 Camper check-in, goal setting, theme-based morning activity
10:00–11:00 ERP Group + Individual Sessions (based on daily theme and personal goals)
11:00–12:00 Theme-based group activity—practice skills, support peers, and have fun
12:00–1:00 Lunch and unstructured play
1:00–1:30 Wrap-up activity for younger kids
1:30–3:00 Extended teen activities + evening goal setting
3:00–5:00 Staff debrief and preparation for the next day

5. What is ERP and how is it used at camp?

ERP (Exposure and Response Prevention) is the gold-standard treatment for OCD. Campers will engage in ERP daily through both structured sessions and real-life activity exposures based on the day’s theme. If a day’s theme doesn’t naturally trigger OCD, campers can work on other relevant exposures that are meaningful to their progress.

6. How does insurance reimbursement work?

The full camp fee is $2,200 for the week.

This includes, not excludes:
• 1 hour of individual therapy per day, totaling 5 hours of individual ERP therapy
• Daily group therapy sessions focused on ERP and peer support
• One intake assessment conducted

These services are typically eligible for insurance reimbursement under most out-of-network mental health plans.

Families will be provided with superbills and documentation to submit to their insurance providers.

We recommend checking with your provider about out-of-network benefits and whether HSA/FSA funds can be applied.

Common CPT codes for insurance submission include:
• 90791 – Initial diagnostic evaluation
• 90834 – Individual psychotherapy, 45 minutes
• 90837 – Individual psychotherapy, 60 minutes
• 90853 – Group psychotherapy
